Literary Works as Teaching Material - As teaching material in the classroom context, literary works are very effective to be used to learn a language. A short story, prose, and novel provide a structure for course material. It is easy for students to remember the concepts in isolation if the concepts and the difficult definitions exist in the flow of these literary works. Additionally, they help create vivid image, meaning that it is also familiar and accessible form of sharing information. It can promote students to ease their learning in mastering and understanding the material since a narrative opening in any scientific task allows students to grasp a concrete example. 

Besides, drama employs students to be active participants during the learning process. The role of drama itself is very obvious getting someone to speak, so in this case, students have to become dynamic during the learning process. Students are also encouraged to express their own ideas and contribute to the whole since a drama will offer exercises in critical thinking and the chance to be creative. More to the point, drama can help them improve their confidence under the need of speaking. It is true that it can encourage the operation of certain psychological factors in participants, which improve communication. Consequently, it encourages them to be brave to speak up in front of the class. On the other side, it puts the teacher in the role of supporter in the learning process and students can take more responsibility for their own learning. Ideally, the teacher will take a less dominant role in the language class and let students explore the language activities.  In the student-centered classroom, every student is a potential teacher for the group. Therefore, drama can afford an opportunity to develop the imagination of students. From the group work, it can construct and appreciate social awareness. It gives an excellent method for studying human nature and working in harmony. The play acting provides the opportunity for a healthy release of emotion in a safe setting which can work to relieve the tension of learning in a second language. Understanding characters, roles, and musicals allows students to relate better to different situations, backgrounds, and cultures. As a result, it encourages them to show compassion and tolerance for others.

Poetry has space for English language. Poetry often deals with abstract concepts, such as, feelings or ideas, rather than more straightforward action or dialogue. Despite these challenges, the advantages of using poetry in language teaching are immense. The benefit of poetry is, of course, the improvement to vocabulary and verbal dexterity. Especially for rhymes, it makes easier for students to learn new words. Poetry also acquaints the reader with unfamiliar terms and encourages verbal analysis. Most poems should not be read in the straightforward manner of prose. The reader must place his own emphasis upon keywords and decode syntax without obvious structure. This encourages readers to grapple with language, and presents reading as a creative act in its own right. Reading poetry entails getting deeply involved in puzzling out the significance of individual words, picturing the subject matter being described, and analyzing how words and phrases might combine to convey a greater meaning. Poems use symbolism and subtexts to sneak under the rational mind and help access the power of the subconscious, which responds strongly to images and metaphor. The creativity involved in writing a poem is even more stimulating as it involves using the resources and figurative language. Noticing, understanding, and appreciating how a poem is used enhance familiarity with the language. Discovering and studying popular poems in the language will teach about native speaker traditions and help familiarize with literary and cultural history.
