Definisi Locution and Illocution beserta Artinya -
Locution is the basic of utterance that produces a meaningful linguistics expression. It means what is said is the meaning, there is no other meaning. In performing locutionary act, a speaker uses an identifiable expression, consisting of a sentence or fragment of sentence from language. For example, this coffee is so hot. It denotes that there is no other meaning intended by the speaker. On the other hands, Illocution is creating an utterance with a function with intention it to have an effect. Illocutionary act is uttered by the speaker that is not only to say or state something but also used to ask someone else to do something. On the other word, illocutionary act is the meaning behind what the speaker says. Identifying illocutionary act is harder than locutionary act. It requires considering who the speaker is, to whom the speaker talks to, and when and where the utterance takes place. For example, when we hear someone says I’m feeling ill and we know that, in saying that she feels ill, Laura was telling John that she didn’t want to go out.
John : “Laura, do you want to go out to the show tonight?”
Laura : “I’m feeling ill.”
Artinya :
John: "Laura, apakah Anda ingin pergi ke pertunjukan malam ini?"
Laura: "Saya merasa sakit."
